Ever since I discovered my love for reading as a kid I always wanted to be the inspiration behind a compelling fictional character. Someone that people will want to read about for years to come. Even into the far flung future.
I can’t write myself. Believe me, I tried. Besides, I’d really like to see myself through someone else’s eyes.
It would be nice if one of my favorite (living) authors were to draw inspiration from me – Dean Koontz, Dylan Schaffer, Karen Marie Moning, Jeff Lindsay (well, long as “I” can face Dexter and live! LOL) – being a fan of Marvel Comics and X-Men and Blade in particular I wouldn’t mind inspiring a new super hero.
Or there’s always movies and tv. Like how the character of Ash Williams in the Evil Dead movies broke the mold for horror movie heroes – let’s face it, in the first one Ash is kind of a wimp – I’d love to inspire – and play – a character in a horror movie that breaks the mold for female characters. Who says fat girls can’t kick vampire or zombie butt? I’m also a fan of Psych and Eureka, wouldn’t mind being on either of those shows too playing a character inspired by me in the first place. While I know I’m a good singer, I think I’m not that great at acting – I could be wrong, mind you, as I do have serious self esteem issues – and feel more comfortable playing someone who’s basically me.
But mostly I’d like to inspire a character in a book or comic book. Learn to see myself in a whole new way. I don’t want just part of me to be the inspiration. I want the entire personality, physical description, etc used for the entire character.
Maybe, besides having the fun of being written about, I could learn to like myself a little.
